GeoCachingMy first exposure to GeoCaching happened a couple years ago while thumbing through an issue of Backpacker Magazine. There was an ad geared towards tourists for the State of Nevada, don't know how effective the ad was but it certainly got me interested in Geocaching. What is Geocaching? Well, Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which the participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to hide and seek containers (called "geocaches") anywhere in the world. A typical cache is a small container containing a logbook and "treasure", usually toys or trinkets. Many participants drive as close as possible to the geocache site, but I prefer to hike or in some cases, snowshoe in. It is a wonderful way to explore new areas, maybe get a friend or family member, who otherwise would not consider hiking, to head up into the hills with you for a little "treasure hunt" To learn more about Geocaching, head on over to Geocaching.com Here are several of the caches I have found in and around the Truckee Meadows area. Follow the links to the official geocache log site or to photos from the hunt.
